Wedding Entertainment at Dunadry Hotel & Gardens - Nikki & Joe

Nikki had been planning the surprise for months.
Her new husband Joe had no idea that while he was sitting down to the wedding meal with their 100 guests, a casino was being quietly assembled in the River Suite ready for the reveal.
What followed was one of those wedding evenings that takes on a life of its own — and produces exactly the kind of stories that guests are still telling years later.

The Dunadry Hotel — Wedding Entertainment at One of Northern Ireland’s Most Loved Venues

Set on the banks of the Six Mile Water river in Antrim, The Dunadry Hotel and Gardens is one of Northern Ireland’s most elegant and established wedding venues. Its combination of beautifully kept grounds, classic interiors and genuinely warm hospitality makes it a setting where weddings feel special from the moment guests arrive.

For Nikki and Joe, it was the perfect backdrop for their wedding day — and as it turned out, the River Suite was about to add a lot of fun to their wedding.

A Secret Months in the Making

The plan sounded straightforward enough.
Set up the casino during the wedding meal and reveal it to Joe afterwards.
In practice, it wasn’t quite that simple.
The wedding meal was taking place in the hotel’s main ballroom, while the ceremony and fun casino were being held in the River Suite. Normally we would quietly bring the equipment into the room while guests were dining — but the layout of the venue meant there was a genuine risk of Joe spotting us and the surprise being ruined before it had even started.
The wonderful team at The Dunadry Hotel came to the rescue.
Together we agreed to arrive early on the morning of the wedding and store all of the equipment in an adjacent room beside the River Suite until it was time for the reveal. It was a small logistical challenge that required a bit of coordination — but it meant the secret stayed intact right up until the moment Nikki was ready to spring it.
While setting up that morning, we crossed paths with the team from Northern Lights Event Hire, who were preparing for the celebrations too. They are always a pleasure to work alongside and did a brilliant job helping to create the atmosphere that made the evening feel so special.
If you’re weighing up wedding entertainment options of your own, a surprise casino is just one of many wedding entertainment ideas in Northern Ireland worth considering — and Nikki and Joe’s day shows exactly why it works

Irish Dancing, Live Music and a Wedding Full of Entertainment

One of the things that made Nikki and Joe’s wedding particularly memorable was the variety of entertainment throughout the evening.

Nikki is a member of a local Irish dancing club, so bringing a little traditional Irish culture into the celebrations was especially fitting. A group of talented young Irish dancers performed for the wedding guests, with their performance quickly drawing smiles, applause and plenty of attention around the room.

It was a lovely contrast to what was still waiting behind the scenes.

While guests enjoyed the dancing and the wedding meal, Joe remained completely unaware that roulette and blackjack tables were waiting nearby in the River Suite.

Then came the casino reveal.

And once our part of the evening eventually came to an end, the entertainment still wasn’t finished. An Irish folk band took over, bringing live traditional music to the celebration and keeping guests entertained well into the night.

It meant the day flowed naturally from one experience to another — Irish dancing, the surprise casino, competitive games around the tables and finally live folk music.

Rather than relying on one single form of entertainment, Nikki had created an evening where there always seemed to be something happening.

The Reveal

After dinner, Nikki led Joe into the River Suite.
His reaction was everything she had hoped for.
With the secret finally out, the newlyweds returned to the ballroom and announced to their guests that there was a casino waiting for them next door.
What happened next felt like a stampede.
Guests poured towards the River Suite (see first video), eager to see what all the excitement was about. Within moments, the roulette and blackjack tables were surrounded by players keen to test their luck. The room filled quickly with noise, laughter and the kind of energy that builds when a crowd of people discover something genuinely unexpected and exciting.
For the evening, we had set up one roulette table and one blackjack table inside the River Suite — enough to keep approximately 100 guests entertained and competitive throughout the night without the room feeling overcrowded.
Even Dunadry Hotel manager Malachy couldn’t resist joining in for a quick spin — much to everyone’s amusement.
The atmosphere was electric from the very first game.

One Spin That Set the Tone

Every event has a moment that seems to define the evening.
For Nikki and Joe’s wedding, it came almost immediately.
One guest, Aidan, walked confidently up to the roulette table, placed all of his chips on black and watched as the wheel began to spin.
The guests surrounding him looked on.
Would he double his chips or lose everything on the very first spin of the night?
That single moment of bold decision-making perfectly captured the mood of the evening and immediately drew the entire room into the excitement. Sometimes all it takes is one brave move to get everyone invested. We managed to capture Aidan’s moment from multiple angles in the timelapse video below.

Family Rivalries, Blackjack Battles and a Worthy Champion

One of our favourite things about wedding casino evenings is watching family members who would never normally compete against each other suddenly become fierce rivals around the tables.
Joe’s younger brother Dillon emerged as one of the most determined players of the night. The blackjack table became his battleground as he chased the winner’s trophy — and perhaps more importantly, the bragging rights that would come with it among both his own family and his newly acquired in-laws.
There was plenty of competition to contend with. Several younger guests pushed him hard throughout the evening, but Dillon refused to give ground and eventually secured the trophy after a closely fought contest.
Meanwhile, the beautiful bride herself found time to join both the roulette and blackjack tables. As Nikki laughed afterwards:
I may not have won, but I’ve learnt a few tricks.
Over on the roulette table, the competition was equally dramatic. Nikki’s uncle Chris ultimately emerged victorious, claiming the bottle of Prosecco and the title of roulette champion. Pictured afterwards with his proud daughter Rebecca, Chris had held off strong challenges throughout the evening — with Niamh in particular pushing him close as she had a massive chip stack at one point.

More Than Just Games

We often say that we don’t simply provide casino tables — we provide opportunities for moments.

Moments when guests cheer together around a roulette wheel.

Moments when families discover unexpected rivalries over a blackjack hand.

Moments when complete beginners find out they are surprisingly good at the game.

And moments when entertainment brings an entire room together.

That was certainly true at Nikki and Joe’s wedding.

From the young Irish dancers bringing smiles to guests’ faces, to the excitement of the surprise casino reveal and the Irish folk band playing into the night, Nikki had created a celebration where entertainment was woven throughout the evening.

While Nikki and Joe were undoubtedly the stars of their day, each part of the entertainment gave their family and friends the opportunity to become part of the story too.

Years from now, guests may not remember every detail of the meal or exactly where they were seated. What they are far more likely to remember are the moments — the Irish dancers performing for the room, the rush into the River Suite when the casino was revealed, Aidan risking everything on black, Dillon battling for family bragging rights, Chris lifting the roulette prize and the music carrying the celebrations into the night.

Those are the moments that give a wedding its personality.

They are the moments people laugh about afterwards, the moments that appear in photographs and videos, and the moments guests continue talking about long after the wedding day itself has ended.

It was a genuine privilege to play a small part in such a wonderful celebration and to help create some of those memories for the new Mr and Mrs McManus and their guests.

From everyone at Fun 21 Casino Hire, we wish Nikki and Joe many years of love, happiness and wonderful memories together.
